These are two authentic Keijidosha yellow Japanese License Plates from Japan. These plates are in excellent used condition and are a must-have for any JDM collector.
This authentic vintage Japanese license plate originates from Izu City (伊豆市), a scenic region in Shizuoka Prefecture renowned for its rich history and tradition. During the Edo period, most of the Izu Province was designated as tenryō territory—land under the direct control of the Tokugawa shogunate. However, areas near present-day Shuzenji were governed by the influential Ōkubo clan of the Ogino-Yamanaka Domain.
In the Meiji era, following the establishment of Japan’s modern municipality system in 1889, the region was organized under the Kimisawa District. This later merged with the Tagata District in 1896. Over time, local towns gained status: Shuzenji in 1924, Toi in 1938, Nakaizu in 1958, and Amagiyugashima in 1960. These four towns eventually united to form the city of Izu on April 1, 2004.
A keijidosha, or kei car, Japanese license plate is a distinctive yellow and black plate used for light vehicles under 660cc, a category unique to Japan. These plates symbolize the country's efficient and compact automotive culture. Acquiring authentic Japanese license plates outside Japan is challenging due to strict export regulations and limited availability. Collectors and enthusiasts often face high costs and legal hurdles, making genuine keijidosha plates a prized possession.
