The Rakuten Eagles are a professional baseball team based in Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture, Japan. They are a member of the Pacific League in Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB). The Eagles were founded in 2004 and play their home games at Rakuten Seimei Park Miyagi.
The Eagles have won one Japan Series championship (2013) and two Pacific League pennants (2013, 2014). They are one of the most popular teams in Japan, and their fans are known for being passionate and supportive.
Takero Okajima (often translated as Goro Okajima) was a cornerstone of the Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles for 14 seasons (2012–2025), originally joining as a fourth-round draft pick and catcher. He is best known for his versatility, eventually transitioning to the outfield where he became a key leadoff hitter during the team’s historic 2013 Japan Series championship run. Notable for his leadership, he scored the first run in Rakuten's Japan Series history and hit a crucial RBI double in the decisive Game 7.
