Mobil Oil’s history in Japan started with Standard Oil’s early presence in Yokohama in 1884 and grew through the Stanvac partnership (Standard-Vacuum Oil Company), which dominated the Far East fuel market from the 1930s until its breakup in 1961–62. The division led to the creation of Mobil Sekiyu K.K., which partnered with Mitsui to establish Kyokuto Petroleum Industries in 1963, strengthening refining and distribution capabilities. After decades operating under the Mobil brand, the 1999 Exxon–Mobil merger led to major restructuring in Japan: Tonen and General Sekiyu merged, ExxonMobil set up ExxonMobil Yugen Kaisha, and by 2012, retail operations were transferred to TonenGeneral, with ExxonMobil providing technical support and branding. The 2017 merger of TonenGeneral with JX Holdings formed JXTG (later ENEOS), which unified Esso, Mobil, and General service stations under the ENEOS name by 2019, ending Mobil’s direct retail fuel presence, though its lubricants continued to be marketed by ExxonMobil Japan.
Mobil’s influence on Japanese motorsports was deep and lasting. The company used its Mobil 1 technology and sponsorship to establish itself in Japan’s racing scene—from Super GT and Formula Nippon to collaborations with automakers’ performance divisions. Mobil-supported teams and events demonstrated their lubricants’ reliability in tough conditions, aligning the brand with precision engineering and top performance. Even after its fuel brand disappeared from service stations, Mobil’s continued presence in high-performance lubricants and motorsport sponsorship kept its legacy alive as a key part of Japan’s automotive and racing innovation.

Measurement Notes
Japanese clothing sizes are typically smaller than those in the US, which is an important consideration when shopping for apparel. Additionally, vintage Japanese clothing tends to have even smaller dimensions compared to the sizes available today. To ensure you find the most accurate fit, we recommend referring to the specific measurements provided for each product. This will help you select the size that best suits your body shape and preferences.
It's important to note that all measurements are taken with the item laid flat on a surface, allowing for precise evaluation of the garment's dimensions.
If you have any other questions about the sizing of a specific product, please don't hesitate to contact us.
