Vintage Showa 1980s JDM Japan Cosmo Gas Station Staff Jacket Blue
COS-002A
A genuine piece of Japanese service-station history, this vintage Cosmo Oil staff jacket was made for the daily work of a COSMO Station attendant. The two-tone navy-and-slate-blue construction, embroidered COSMO oval chest patch, covered front zipper, and practical workwear cut give it the unmistakable look of late-Showa, late-1980s Japanese petroleum-industry apparel.
Cosmo Oil was established in 1986, and its distinctive oval logo became a familiar sight at service stations throughout Japan. This jacket reflects that era of full-service fuel stations, car-care bays, and hands-on customer service—functional uniform clothing made to be worn, worked in, and recognized.
The jacket features a light-blue collar and lower body contrasted with deep navy shoulders and sleeves, plus elasticated side hem sections, adjustable cuffs, and an interior utility pocket. The original COSMO neck label and embroidered chest patch remain in place.
Visible shop wear and the light-blue panels give this piece its authentic lived-in character and reinforce its history as genuine service workwear.
Cosmo Oil, one of Japan's leading energy companies, traces its origins to early 20th-century oil ventures that merged in 1986 to form a single entity, including Maruzen Oil, Daikyo Oil, and the former Cosmo Oil. This merger established a vertically integrated energy business with refining, distribution, and retail operations across Japan. Over the decades, Cosmo has expanded its network and modernized its operations, managing major refineries in Chiba, Yokkaichi, and Sakai while converting older sites into oil terminals.
Today, Cosmo maintains a strong national presence with over 2,600 service stations across Japan, serving as both key retail points and strategic locations for its environmental initiatives. These gas stations not only support their traditional fuel business but also act as collection hubs for used cooking oil to produce SAF, reinforcing their role in Japan's decarbonization efforts.
